Not much to show for a 2 week holiday in Crete but we were there purely for a chill out relaxing, do nothing, type of holiday, and it was fabulous! We were staying near Heraklion in a tiny coastal resort but when the weather changed and brought us 2 cloudy days we hired a car to go and explore a little bit of this gorgeous island. Cliche shots they maybe, but you have to do it, capture those vibrant fishing boats, they are just adorable. We came across these cute boats when we stopped for lunch in Elounda at a pretty seafront Restaurant where they had the freshly caught octopus drying on the line, I have to say, this sight was a first for me. From there we drove further along the coast to a very small village, Plaka so that we could look across the teal coloured sea to view Spinalonga, the tiny islet which was which once a leper colony, Some of you might have read Victoria Hislop’s bestselling novel ‘The Island’ which is based upon Spinalonga. I felt that I had to experience some of Crete’s Archaeological Sites, we visited 3 of their many ruins, there are quite a few to say the least, the photo taken is of Faistos. Although our resort did have a small beach, it wasn’t the greatest, however there were some compensations with the most beautiful sunsets, every single night!
